KIA motors wants to run on Indian road

http://www.cartype.com/pics/2979/full/kia_oval_logo.jpg
Kia Auto mobiles, a sister organisation of South Korean automaker Hyundai, is reportedly eyeing an India entry. The company plans to set up a plant in Chennai, near Hyundai Motor India's plant. The facility is expected to be ready by 2012 and will have an installed capacity of 3 lakh units.Kia’s best-selling global model include the C-segment Cerato/Forte, B-segment Rio and Sportage compact sports utility vehicle, Sorento mid-size compact utility vehicle and Soul, the urban crossover. For the first five months of 2010, Kia sold 820,613 units globally, an increase of 38.9% year-on-year. Sales in China rose 92.9% for the period.

Kia Auto mobile conducting a feasibility study to select a site for the plant near Chennai.”

“Based on data from Hyundai Motor which entered the Indian market in 1998, we are estimating costs and time to build the plant, as well as examining demand forecasts and Hyundai's sales figures there,” he was quoted in the report.

Hyundai sister organisation and its decisions are its own. If they want to enter they are most welcome. I have nothing more to add.Hyundai operates two plants in Chennai with a combined annual output of 6 lakh units a year. The company is in the process of shifting the production of Hyundai i20 out of Chennai to its Turkey plant. This will free capacity for 50,000-odd units. The plant in Turkey has a capacity of 1 lakh units per annum. The company says tax benefits in Turkey prompted it to shift the production. Park added that with little investment, the capacity at Chennai cab rise to 6.7 lakh units a year.

Honda Brio

http://www.dancewithshadows.com/autoindia/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/honda-brio-photo.jpg

Honda Auto mobile is readying the Brio small car for its official unveiling at the upcoming Thailand Motor Show.Rumours suggest Honda will name its upcoming small car “Brio” which means “funny small car.” Honda had showcased the small car concept, codenamed CV2, at the Delhi Auto Expo 2010 in January.
The Honda Brio could be powered by a three-cylinder 900 cc engine, perhaps a de-tuned version of the 1.2-litre engine that’s on the Honda Jazz, to offer higher fuel economy and to cut down production costs. The Brio may be equipped with a 5-speed manual and an automatic (CVT type) transmission option as well.

The B-segment car market in India is already flooded with a slew of new entrants. The success of new cars such as the Ford Figo, Chevrolet Beat, Volkswagen Polo and Nissan Micra is encouraging global players like Toyota and Honda to introduce new cars.

Toyota Auto mobile , in fact, had showcased a hatchback and sedan variant of its Etios at the Delhi Auto Expo 2010. The Japanese giant is promoting its small car aggressively before its expected launch in December. And Honda is preparing the Brio to counter the Toyota Etios challenge. However, no launch dates have been announced with rumours pointing to a possible launch next year. There are also speculations that Honda will launch the Brio first in Thailand in March 2011 and then roll it out in India during the second half of 2011. This can be backed by the fact that Honda India is still undecided about commencing assembly operations at the company’s second plant in Rajasthan.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport launched in India!

http://burnyourfuel.com/My_Files/Bugatti/Veyron-Grand-Sport-Edition/bugatti-veyron-grand-sport-edition-front-left2.jpg

It's one of the most desirable cars in the Auto mobile world and why not-with 1001 bhp pumping out of its 16 cylinder, quad-turbocharged engine, the Bugatti Veyron has been the fastest production car on the planet. Even after the SSC Ultimate Aero beat the original Veyron to claim the title, Bugatti then came up with the Veyron Super Sport-1200 bhp of power that decimated any of the competition! Enough of the history lesson-but the big news is that the Veyron is now in India! And we're not talking about grey imports. It's officially here! Jaws dropped and hyper ventilations put aside, Bugatti has launched this exquisitely crafted piece of machinery through Exclusive Motors-the wonderful guys behind the fully legal Lamborghini line up available in India as well.

The Veyron that will be sold in India through Exclusive Motors' showroom in New Delhi, is the 16.4 Grand Sport-yes, the same car that Vikram Gour drove in Italy a couple of weeks back. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Satya Bagla, Managing Director, Exclusive Motors said "We are pleased to launch Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport in India; the car is a modern statement of ultra luxury, speed and extraordinary style. We have introduced this car in the Indian market for the super premium luxury and sports car aficionados. We are thrilled with the launch of the Bugatti and are confident that the car will receive an overwhelming response from the customers of luxury. The model is a pure evidence of the brand's technological expertise. This hand crafted car is sure to provide the Indian audience with an unparalleled driving experience." Present at the launch Mr. Julius Kruta, Head of Tradition, Bugatti Automobiles SAS said, "Indians have always been great car enthusiasts, they know a lot about cars, so we are sure that they will appreciate the uniqueness of this car."

Great news this as far as the Indian Auto mobile enthusiast is concerned and before so many of you go on commenting about the lack of roads and space and infrastructure and what not in India to drive this car-who really cares! Because if you want one of these beauties in your garage you're going to have to shell out an awesome Rs 16 crore for the base version-optional equipment and add-ons will obviously cost extra!

Bajaj Ktm Duke 125 cc

bajaj ktm 125 duke bike photo

The KTM 125 Duke is all about enhancing the lifestyle of young riders passionate about pure riding fun, making a style statement and enjoying state-of-the-art technology in a superb new bike. KTM is all about making ultra cool bikes guaranteed to stop the traffic and attract a crowd of admirers! We could go on, but we will stop it there for now!
When will the launch happen

While sources say the KTM Duke 125 would be launched only in 2011 and we can expect Bajaj could be making a push for the KTM Duke 125 to be rolled out in the early months. The KTM 125 Duke is expected be launched in Europe by March next year. , but no word on whether it will be imported to the United States.
What will the price be?

Various sources say that the bike’s launch is expected to be in March 2011 at a price a little above Rs. 1 lakh similar to Yamaha YZF-R15. We are a litle wary of any price speculation – wile we would like to see it launched at aroud Rs 1 lakh, frankly, it could be priced anywhere up to Rs 1.5 lakh. Despite Bajaj’s decision to manufacture the bike locally, the technology and some of the imported parts mean it won’t be cheap but not necessarily super-expensive either. The upcoming Honda 250R is going to be priced around Rs 1.5 lakh – so pricing it above that would make it dead on arrival. So… let’s wait and see.
Is it stylish?
bajaj ktm 125 duke bike photo

Of course. Tha’s some Auto mobile serious style there reminiscent of bigger KTM bikes. The photos of the Duke 125 reveal a muscular fuel tank with the seats and rear end tapering off at a high angle. The low slung exhaust has a short reach and finishes off just behind the engine. Rumors suggest the Duke’s frame could even be handle a higher-powered engine should the need arise. The bike will be built in India to keep costs down but expect total KTM quality control.
Do we really get to burn the tarmac?

The Duke 125 gets its grunt from a liquid-cooled fuel-injected engine with a claimed output of 15 bhp at 10,500 rpm and 8.9 lb-ft torque at 8000 rpm. The engine is fed its power via a six speed transmission. Top speed however, is electronically limited to 80 kmph. This might be only for Europe and could get changed for different countries where the Duke 125 might be sold. If the gearing is right, 15 bhp could mean a top speed of around 130 kmph.

In India Auto mobile , for example, the Duke 125 will be sold by Bajaj Auto and the restrictions would not apply. The expected fuel efficiency is around 30 kmpl and the fuel tank capacity would be 13 litres with 2.5 litres for reserve.
How does it ride?

The Duke 125’s suspension unit consists of an inverted 43mm fork and rear shock, with both units offering 6.3 inches of travel. Initial test rides by auto mags abroad
And how does it stop?

KTM developed the single disc brakes at the front and rear with the guidance of industry-leader Brembo. The bike is a lightweight unit as well. With its 11-liter gas tank full, the little zapper weighs in at a lithe 118 kg.

Toyota Etios

http://www.zigwheels.com/uploads/newcar/toyota_logo.jpghttp://www.zigwheels.com/alfresco/INDT/SpecialFeatures/Toyota_20101122_images/Etios.jpg

Apart from build quality and performance, prospective customers have also been rather concerned with mileage, after all mileage is the holy grail to any car's success in India. Tushar Mathur from Gurgaon voices his concern, "Toyota Automobile new sedan Etios has got the looks, the power and the reliability. The smiling 'human face' looks will definitely bring some smiles on people looking for sedan in this segment. The price range of Rs.7 lakh to Rs 9 lakh is very apt and will give a tough fight to the Honda Auto mobile, Hyundai Verna and the Chevrolet Optra. Also the 1.5 liter petrol engine will definitely produce impressive power but my concern is the fuel efficiency. It might be an issue."

On the contrary, Amanish Kumar Jena of Mumbai is confident on the average Toyota Etios will offer, he says, "I am sure the Etios will offer at least 13-14 kilometers to the litre, but I am doubtful with the price. I think it will be a costly affair."

The survey also revealed that there could be issues with the Etios matching the class it has been offered in. "I am a little dicey with the Q class concept. With price range getting low, it might affect the features the other segments have," says a confused Nitin Maheshwari of Bangalore.

Overall the feedback from prospective customers and enthusiasts alike has revealed that the Etios needs to be a car of quality and should stand as testimony to Toyota's build quality. The car should be spacious, fuel efficient and have decent features. The price should by no means reach the Honda City territory. If the Etios lives up to these standards, Toyota has a winner on their hands. Come December, when the Etios is finally made available to customers, we will indeed get to know if the Etios has lived up to customer expectations.

Yamaha FZ1 In India

http://pictures.topspeed.com/IMG/crop/200910/yamaha-fz1-6_460x0w.jpg

Yamaha FZ1, with its 1000cc and four cylinders , would compete with the recentlylaunched Honda CB1000R. It is pitted in the same category as the Suzuki Bandit and Kawasaki Z1000S in the international market.

Superbikes are big-performance bikes with engine capacity of 500 cc and above. Japanese automakers such as Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki are top players in superbikes space along with Ducati and BMW . Most of them are now present in India.

Japanese bike manufacturer is believed to have sent the FZ1 for homologation. “The bike is priced cheaper than the Honda CB1000R, which is the cheapest imported superbike currently sold. The bike will be imported as CBU from Australia or Japan,”

said people close to development. It is also believed to be considering the semi-knocked down (SKD) route for the FZ1. This will help Yamaha to price the FZ1 competitively.

The super bike will be launched in December and will be priced between Rs 8-9 lakh.

Skoda Yeti Vs BMW X5

SUVs are not just about driving, but lording over the rest of the road users. But their massive size-which has been their trademark-has always bothered us. And that's where the Yeti differs. It's just like a big-boned hatchback which can do anything that a full-blown SUV can. So let's sit back and find out if it is capable of achieving all that its bigger competitors can.

http://www.autoplugged.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Skoda-Yeti.jpg

Space wise the Yeti can easily seat five adults and what's interesting is its Varioflex space management feature. What it does is let you tilt back the reverse seats to such an extent that they can be simply folded or even detached completely to give you loads of extra space.

Powering this machine is a 2.0 litre diesel motor, the same engine that propels Laura but some tweaks have been done to achieve a max power output of 140 bhp. Adding more bite is its stupendous torque of 320 Nm which can be banked upon from as low as 1750 rpm. The best thing about the Yeti is that it's as easy to manoeuvre as a sedan. Due to its short wheelbase and a high ground clearance it can also easily tackle off road activities to quite an extent. But what takes the cake is its compact size which let's you carve your own way through narrow mountain trails which can be a hassle in a full-blown SUV.

http://www.essexvehiclecontracts.co.uk/vehicles/bmw-x5-sport-dubai-1.jpg

The fuel efficiency on clogged city roads came in close proximity of double digit figure; no mean feat from an engine that whips the speedometer needle to 100 km/ph in 5.5 seconds, with a V8 power unit featuring twin-power turbo and direct injection delivering a torque of 600 Nm at 1,750-4 ,500 rpm. The eight-speed transmission is assisted with 'servotronic' steering assistance that gave us the comfort of driving a sedan. Add to it the wider tyres for a better grip and the refurbished alloys with more spokes to give it a rigidity on tardy Indian roads.

There are improved interiors with lighter shades of colours in its Nevada leather upholstery and BMW has added optional third-row seats to accommodate up to seven persons with ease storage space. Besides, there are minor changes with iDrive system which controls the entertainment and information functions. Clearly, X5 is trying to race past Audi Q7, with a reinvented blend of sportiness and aggression. With its signature kidney grille and dual round headlights, slightly cut off at the top, have been re-compassed to makes the car more striking, the X5 now can boasts of an expressive front that may force its global arch-rival , the Audi Q7, to come up with something better.

Mercedes Benz Launches New M-Class Grand Edition

http://www.carwale.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/new-m-class.jpg

The New M-Class was introduced in the country last year.

"The M-Class has been a popular model series in India. The Sports Edition and the Executive Edition are very aggressively priced considering the loadings and features of this marquee," Mercedes-Benz India's managing director and CEO, Wilfried Aulbur, said in statement here.

"We are confident that customers who expect highest standards from their vehicles will find the M-Class a vehicle that exceeds their expectations-both on and off the road," Aulbur said.

Mercedes Benz has its plant at Chakan near Pune in Maharashtra, where it produces models including C Class, E Class and the S Class

This December Debut For Nissan Micra Diesel

http://www.motorparks.co.uk/upload/Nissan_Micra.jpg

Yes, the Nissan Micra will soon be available with a diesel engine under its curvy bonnet and that's where the Renault-Nissan partnership truly shows its presence ? because the oil burner making its way into the Micra isn't just another small capacity one-it's the same powerplant that does duty in the Logan! The Japanese automaker has done away with the Logan's intercooler though, so the 1461cc engine should now make about 65PS @ 4000rpm and 155Nm @ 2000rpm which is very slightly lower than what the Logan makes in its current tune.

The trade-off between the weight saved and the reduction in power is minimal and seems like a great step by Nissan considering that the Micra is a smaller car and will weigh in at just over 1000kg.The Micra diesel will be available in two variants only-the XV and the XV Premium. The diesel XV will share its features list with the XV petrol ? which means it will come with a driver-side airbag and the Intelligent key system and push button ignition, electrically adjustable and foldable wing mirrors, body coloured door handles and the works, but it will still be sans ABS and EBD.

All of that though, will be available in the top-of-the-line XV Premium variant which will also sport 15? alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a spoiler at the rear. Expect the Nissan diesel to be priced in the Suzuki Swift DDiS territory-Rs 5 lakh upwards.

All those in favour of purpose-driven education, its time to please step up!!

http://vision.org.in/images/Automobile%20Engineering.jpg

I deem it necessary to step up to project the rather urgent need for a change of attitude towards education in this country. Many people educated in Ghana over the past half century have left Ghana to acquired additional knowledge and expertise becoming giants in their fields of endeavour the world over.

Good example are Kofi Annan of the UN, Dr. Peter Atadja of Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Ave Kludze of NASA and the list goes on.These clearly answer the question on whether people of Ghanaian origin and Africans for that matter are intellectually capable. Alot more evidence continue to accumulate that totally disperse any contention that Ghana and Africa own its current state of underdevelopment to lack of creative thinking abilities.

Purpose of education

The value of education to a human being resides in two important points, firstly the transformation of the human mind from crude to structured or a refined form and secondly the acquisition of the capability to transform ones surroundings into a form that increases quality of life. It is in the second point lies a clear demonstration of concept of purpose driven education.

The key question that anybody in the educational sector need to always ask is "for what purpose is this quest for knowledge and understanding? A quote from the Bible will explain what the purpose should be for any society seeking enlightenment and training for its people. When the time came for God to instruct the people of Israel to build the tent of meeting and ark of the covenant, God said to Moses in Exodus 31:3 -"and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts". And in verse 6 of the same chapter it says "Also I have given skill to all the craftsmen to make everything I have commanded you".

In this situation God choose to build the capacity of the workmen involved in the project of constructing the tent of meeting and the ark of the testimony by filling them with His Spirit. Society today builds the capacity of its people through education and training for the many different project necessary to build the structures and create the substance our lives depend on.

Therefore, the delivery of educational services must be bench marked not by the grades awarded but rather the various project targets in specialised fields. Case in point is the training of automobile engineers in this country.

The fact that courses in automobile engineering is offered in the Polytechnics and KNUST should reflect on the performance and longevity of our cars. Any one who owns a car can concur with me, without subjecting this issue to scientific polling and statistical analysis, that the current situation strongly suggest that the level and scope of training in automobile engineering is far lower that what is needed.

Maruti Suzuki to limit exports to last year's level

http://burnyourfuel.com/My_Files/Maruti/Maruti-Suzuki-Logo.jpg

India's largest automaker Maruti Suzuki will limit exports to the last year's level due to capacity constraints, a top official of the carmaker has said.

They are not competing in exports (with other carmakers) since they are short of capacity. So, exports will decline.

Maruti Suzuki exported 1.47 lakh units in 2008-09, the highest ever export figures, with the compact car A-star alone clocking over 1.27 lakh units.

'A-star' was exported to European countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. Major non-European export markets for the car include Algeria, Chile, Indonesia and neighbouring countries.

South Africa, Hong Kong, Australia and Norway were new markets where the company's cars were exported during the year

To address increasing demand for its products, Maruti Suzuki has commenced work to increase capacity at the Manesar plant.

In March 2010, the company had announced a Rs 1,700 crore investment for expanding production by 2.5 lakh units at its Manesar plant.

Production capacity after the expansion will reach 12.50 lakh units by 2012.

All the models are in the waiting list. The average waiting list is three months for the diesel variant of Swift Dezire.

Now Maruti will keep increasing production in whichever way it can primarily to meet customer demand...their reasonable target (to meet the demand) is 2012.

Maruti Suzuki sold 10.18 lakh vehicles in 2008-09 fiscal, the first time in Indian automotive history that a car company has sold over a million units in a financial year. This included sales of 8.70 lakh units in the domestic market, the highest ever by the company in a fiscal.

The growth of the automobile industry might grow by 15%. Even SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) also said the industry would grow by 12-14 per cent and that is reasonable...but we have to look at base effect also.

Bhargava felt one of the biggest challenges facing the industry is lack of infrastructure especially when they are looking at global developments (in automobile industry).

Maruti Suzuki reported a 17.28 per cent jump in sales to 88,091 units in June against 75,109 units in the same month last year.

Skoda is changing its gears

http://www.lifeinitaly.com/files/imagecache/extralarge/55f51b16fb0b99de2cef31f7abfe7281.jpg

Its track record has been patchy, but the carmaker wants to launch at least one model every year. Amid much fanfare on a cold and misty January morning in New Delhi, SkodaAuto India, known for its tank-like sedans and peppy powertrains, announced its much-awaited entry into the compact car segment, with the launch of the Fabia. That was over two years back.

The pricey little hatchback (Rs 4.99-7.68 lakh) got a warm response with more than 3,500 units sold in the first four months. But then the Hyundai i20 happened, putting Skoda — one of the three brands of Volkswagen — on reverse gear.

Hyundai pitted the i20 directly against the Fabia in terms of price (Rs 4.5-6 lakh), space and comfort. The i20 clocked average sales of over 2,000 units per month in the first six months compared to 875 units per month of the Fabia.

That’s an understatement considering that Fabia sales are now averaging just 500-550 units per month compared to 4,000-5,000 units of the i20, as per the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) and company data.

Fabia suddenly started facing a lot of questions. The money one would pay for a Fabia can be better used by a discerning customer to buy two Maruti Altos and an automatic scooter — basically an entire family’s automotive needs, says an analyst.

Skoda’s travails did not end there. The company’s once most popular brand Octavia (a Rs 10.5-13.5 lakh sedan) was phased out creating a wide gap in the product line-up which includes the Fabia (entry level), Laura (premium) and Superb (luxury). The Octavia was positioned between the Fabia and the Laura for the premium car maker.

But the Czech car marker is fighting back in India, and how. It is getting ready for a new play with a range of new models which will hit the market this year. In fact, Skoda would launch at least one new model every year in India.

The new model from Skoda this year will be the much-publicised Yeti, a compact five seater sports utility vehicle slated to explore the segment (Rs 10-13 lakh) that has been left untouched by many manufacturers.

The company will start the assembly operations of the Yeti around October and will launch the SUV around the same time. Presently all cars of Skoda are assembled and not made here.

This will be followed by a refurbished Fabia, complete with a new bumper and fog light and new interiors, in December this year. Company officials are tight lipped about any changes in the pricing, but say it would be competitive.

Skoda will also plug the gap left by the phase-out of Octavia with the planned launch next year of an all-new sedan slotted in the entry premium segment (Rs 10-13 lakh). This new car is built on the same PQ25 platform which was used by Volkswagen to make the Vento sedan that will hit the market later in the year.

The company is also working on a new small car below the Fabia. The starting price could be around Rs 3.5-4 lakh and could house a new small engine. This car would be launched in 2012 after Skoda finalises its assembly plans at the Chakan plant of Volkswagen.

This was necessary as in the absence of a volume-generating compact car like the Hyundai i10 or a Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, SkodaAuto has been playing on a rough pitch in India. In the year-ended March, 2010, the company had a minuscule share of 1.1 per cent of the car market, with sales of 17,502 units.

Besides, over 75 per cent of all small car sales in India come from the segment below the Rs 5 lakh price point. There are about a dozen-odd models in that category. More than 1.52 million new cars were sold in India last year, of which 78 per cent, or 1.19 million were compact cars.

Skoda has also gone in for newer sales promotion initiatives such as selling new cars through the on-line medium to cut costs. It also introduced the concept of boutique showrooms in a limited series to promote the brand.

JFE unveils the 3-minute electric car charge

http://www.treehugger.com/20081209-better-place-israel.jpg

Thirty minutes used to be the gold standard when it came to charging electric car batteries. But JFE Engineering, a Japanese energy technology company, has unveiled a way to recharge batteries in one-tenth of that time.

In only three minutes, the company claims that it can recharge a battery up to 50 percent of its capacity, and in five minutes recharge the battery up to 80 percent, according to an article in CrunchGear.

The Mitsubishi iMiev had a 50-mile range after a five-minute charge in testing.

In contrast, the Nissan Leaf using 440-volt fast-charging stations takes 26 minutes to achieve an 80 percent charge of its battery. London-based Chargemaster announced the production of the Chargemaster FastCharge, which can recharge an electric car in 2.5 hours, down from the typical six hours using a standard charger.

JFE's new technology should be available in Japan by March 2011.

Major auto sales makers in India continued to grow local vehicle sales in June as higher disposable incomes, cheaper auto loans and new small car models are driving sales.

India's auto makers have raised prices four times since January to either protect profit margins or to pass on the impact of higher taxes and their investments on new technology. Auto sales makers such as TVS Motor Co., Ford India Pvt. Ltd. and Bajaj Auto Ltd. raised prices for the fourth time in June, while others are contemplating hikes.

India's largest car maker by sales Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. posted a 17% rise in June sales to 88,091 vehicles from 75,109 a year earlier. Local sales of the Indian unit of Suzuki Motor Corp. increased 18% to 72,812 vehicles, while exports grew 15% to 15,279 vehicles.

Strong demand for its mid-sized sedans SX4 and Dzire helped boost total sales. The two models recorded a 32.5% jump in June sales to 8,081 units, while sales of the company's SUVs surged to 1,309 units from 190 units. Small car sales grew 11% to 51,418 vehicles.

Maruti said sales rose despite a production halt for routine maintenance between June 20 and June 27 at its Gurgaon and Manesar factories in the northern Haryana state. The two units together produce 4,000 vehicles a day.

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., India's largest utility vehicle maker, said it managed to report higher numbers even though it also had a week-long maintenance halt at its factory in Maharashtra.

It posted a 20% rise in vehicle sales, including utility vehicles and light trucks. Total vehicle sales rose to 27,562 units from 22,999 a year earlier. Total local sales climbed 16.5% to 26,243 vehicles while exports grew two-and-a-half times to 1,201 units.

The Indian unit of Hyundai Motor Co. also reported a rise in local sales. "The domestic market continues to show a steady growth but exports have slowed down, especially in Europe," said Arvind Saxena, director of sales and marketing at Hyundai Motor India said.

Hyundai Motor India's local sales rose 19% to 27,366 units, while exports dipped 22% to 18,888 units.

Demand for cars this year has been helped with new launches by Maruti, Ford India and General Motors India. Small cars form a bulk of sales in India, a segment which Maruti dominates with models Alto, Wagon-R, Estilo, Swift, Ritz and A-Star.

There might be a slowdown in sales during July when purchases usually go down due to the monsoon season, but in the long-term, the industry should grow in healthy double-digits,

India's passenger vehicle sales are estimated to double to 4.5 million units by 2016.

Ford India said it sold 7,269 vehicles in June, up from 1,982 it sold last year. "That success was driven mainly by the popularity of the Figo," the company said. Ford launched Figo in March this year.

Ford India Managing Director Michael Boneham said the company will commence a second production shift at Chennai factory in the southern state of Tamil Nadu to meet the rising demand.

General Motors India Pvt. Ltd. reported healthy gains with sales climbing to 9,539 vehicles from 4,492. It sold 3,415 units of its Chevrolet Beat, launched in January, and 2,911 units of its other small car Chevrolet Spark.

TVS Motor, the third-largest two-wheeler maker by sales, reported a 36% surge in June sales to 156,685 units. Local sales gained 33% to 139,905 vehicles, while exports soared 66% to 16,780 units.

The maker of the Flame and Apache motorcycles sold 66,452 bikes in June, up 44% from a year earlier. Sales of its Scooty and Wego scooters grew 42% to 36,742 units.

The company sold 3,003 three-wheeled vehicles in the month, up from 810 units in the year-earlier period.

The sale of European new car has slumped 9.3% in May

http://www.topnews.in/files/European-car-sales.jpg

According to the ACEA trade association, the sale of New car in the European Union has slumped 9.3% in May due to the end of government cash-for-clunkers programmes and a tough economic outlook. After a drop of 7.4% in April, new registrations fell to 1,129,508 cars in May.

Demand for new cars in the EU declined for the second month this year in May, reflecting the end to government support schemes on the one hand and the further challenging economic situation on the other.

Germany, Europe's biggest car market, saw the steepest fall, with new car sales plunging 35.1%. Other big European car markets also saw sharp falls with sales down 13.8% in Italy and off 11.5% in France.

However, Spain saw sales shoot up 44.6% in May albeit from depressed levels last year.

GM is going to recharge its electric car after Reva got split

http://www.ecosherpa.com/images/ev2.jpg

Very soon, General Motors (GM) is coming forward to develop an electric car for India on its own. It had to drop its plan for the electric Spark following a break-up with Reva. The American car maker, which is expected to launch the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, Chevrolet Volt, in the US by the year-end, will certainly not bring the Volt to India.

In March, GM had said the eSpark would not reach customers by the promised date. It had also moved part of its operations back to Detroit, in an early sign of its faltering partnership with Reva. GM India president Karl Slym said it made little sense to continue working with Reva after it sold a 55 per cent stake to Mahindra & Mahindra because of Reva having (a new) owner, there really is no value for us in doing this India-specific exploration (with it).

GM and Reva came together in September to produce a battery-powered version of the Spark, a popular car in south Asia, which was meant for sale in India later this year.

If India wanted to become a big player in electric vehicles, it needed to increase its supply of batteries. It’s not the technology, it’s the battery that is the key to making an electric solution commercial. GM has the biggest battery development centre in the US and is now building a second one in China.

The company, along with other auto giants, has sought assistance from the Centre to develop infrastructure before they start launching electric cars. Without proper infrastructure, electric cars can not get success. GM India is planning to launch the diesel version of the Chevrolet Beat next year, is upbeat about tier-III and tier-IV cities.

Auto industry growth impressive: Ford India

http://www.huadu.gov.cn/english/news/breaking/W020070723390184685997.jpg

Ford India believes the growth shown by the Indian automobile industry is relentless. At a panel discussion on Tuesday by the Rotary Club of Chennai and the Chennai Business School on “Challenges and Opportunities of Doing Business in India,” Ford India’s Executive Director of Marketing, Sales & Service, Nigel Wark said, “The Indian automobile industry has grown 40 per cent this year over last year. It has a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15 per cent over a 10-year period. During the recession when our European markets were drying up and Indian banks had more or less stopped giving loans because there were no takers for loans… in that period, though Indians stopped taking loans, car sales did not reduce. I wonder whether they kept the money hidden under the mattress,” he quipped.

Wark said Tamil Nadu in particular offered many things that a foreign investor dreams of - excellent workforce, infrastructure, supply base, capability, investment potential in the area and the willingness of the government to support investors. “I think Chennai is India’s best kept secret,” he grinned.

Echoing his sentiments was Mike Nithavrianakis, British Deputy High Commissioner to South India. “I always tell British businessmen that India is a land of enormous opportunity and their best bet is to find a local partner in India who can help cut through the bureaucracy and the red tape,” he said.

India’s desperate need of the hour was to improve infrastructure and fast. He quoted a McKenzie report titled “India in 2030” which said that in 20 years, 40 per cent of the country’s population will live in cities. Currently 30 per cent of the population lives in the cities.

Is this the Best Race in the World?

http://germancarscene.com/wp-content/uploads/truth-in-24-2-8-4.jpg

The 24 hour Le Mans race is a one of a kind spectacle in the world of motor-sports. It is the only 24 hour car race of its kind anywhere in the world and it is a test of resilience and automotive engineering excellence. The cars all have to complete a race circuit in a 24 hour time frame with a few pit stops allowed for general maintenance and repairs to the cars and the possibility of changing the driver. If anyone out there has gone on a long car journey before they know just how difficult it can be to keep driving for an extended period of time. The racers in the Le Mans race do it every year and keep doing it over and over again.

The race itself is gruelling and takes every inch of strength and composure that the driver can muster up over the course. The race is also a testament to the high level of engineering excellence that one can find in the cars in the race. A car these days is engineered to be driven for a very long time and most good quality cars can easily be driven for ten years without anything major happening to them. All they require is a tune up and service once in a while. But the difference in the cars in the Le Mans race is that they are being driven at their top speeds, flat out for a continuous period of 24 hours. If something is going to go wrong with the cars it will happen during this long and extended race. "Le Mans, in France, is famous for the 24-hour race, which is a favourite of many British car racing and classic car enthusiasts. Various classes of sports car compete in a battle of reliability, attrition, fuel efficiency and speed during one weekend a year in mid June (12-13 June 2010).

The race that took place was a very exciting one and the highlight of the race seemed to be the entrance of the famous British Formula 1 race car driver Nigel Mansell to the grid. He was taking part in the race this year along with his sons, but his campaign was cut short with a pretty horrific crash early on in the proceedings. This shows just how gruelling and problematic the 24 hour race can be, if a professional F1 driver like Mansell can crash and not be able to complete the race where does that leave the rest of the drivers in the field? Maybe he should have stuck to being retired. Crashes though are part of the race and they happen all the time in all formats of motor-sports. It is just the combination of speed and endurance that sometimes gets the better of the drivers and they lose control of their vehicles. The fact that they are usually pushing the cars to their limits and making them go as fast as they can also contributes to errors in judgment and leads to crashes.

There is a purpose to the Le Mans race that was envisioned when it started in 1923. It is more than just racing at top speeds for the longest time possible and winning the race. There is a definite tie in the world of ordinary cars that the average public drive. "Instead of focusing on the ability of a car company to build the fastest machines of the time, the 24 Hours Le Mans would instead concentrate on the ability of manufacturers to build sporty yet reliable cars. This would drive innovation in not only reliable but also fuel-efficient vehicles, since the nature of endurance racing requires as little time to be spent in the pits as possible". The race then has nobler intentions than simply being a very cool and exciting sport. By pushing manufacturers to produce cars that can go for longer distances with less fuel they are helping the automotive engineering industry test new ideas that will help the dependence on foreign oil and come up with better engineered cars that can be used by the general public.

By also being a testing platform for car makers in addition to a very cool and interesting and unique race, Le Mans has cemented its place amongst the other strong racing formats in the world today and has been able to carve a distinctive niche for itself. The world of motor-sports is wide open these days with the innovations in racing and cars on show. Le Mans is set to continue this tradition for many years to come.

Figo's Success Is A Big Boost For Ford India

http://www.autoindiaforum.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/bmw-7.jpg

While 30000 units of Ford cars were produced this in the company's Chennai plant in the first five months, this production is more than the number of cars produced in the entire 2009's 12 months period. Due to the rising demands of Figo, the small car from Ford, the company will start the second shift of operations from this July. This will reflect in an increase in 40000 units more than the current production rate of 1,00,000 units per annum.

Ford Figo's success was evident from the 21000 bookings the car maker received through out its various dealership outlets across the country, coming in just 3 months from the date of Figo's launch. So far, according to the Ford India President, 16000 Figos are already delivered and the second shift operation will help the company to reduce the waiting time considerably.

Ford's new engine production plant in Chennai, has the capacity to produce 2.5 lakhs units per annum facilitating Ford India's export process. Currently, Figo is being exported to South Africa as a complete car. Also, the company is exporting its engines to Thailand for the Fiesta programme. As of now the demand is 2500-3000 engines per month in Thailand.

During May 2010, 6237 Figo cars were sold through the Ford's various dealers. Mr Nigel Wark, Executive Director for Marketing, auto Sales and Service, in Kochi was present at the occassion of the Ford India's president delivering the 1000th key to a Figo customer at Kairali Ford. According to him, Figo continued to be the top seller as the company's total sale of 8080 units that included all models contained more than 6200 units of Figo alone. He also added that the demands in Kerala marketed auto sales is increasing and the company hopes that once the second shift operations begin at the Chennai plant, it will facilitate in faster deliveries.

Mr Thomas J. Cherukara, Dealer Principal, Kairali Ford informed that Figo's popularity has witnessed a fantastic rise in Kochi and through their outlet, the dealer had sold close 700 cars in April 2010 alone, with an iconic number of 72 deliveries in a single day. Impressively, Ford's quick maintenance service in less than one and half hours is carried out in 50 outlets out of the 166 outlets across 97 cities of India.

More road tax is going to drain from our pocket

http://i.treehugger.com/images/2007/10/24/c-metisse-06.jpg

In a recent news, it was said that consumers may have to pay minimum Rs 5,000 more to buy a car and up to Rs 2,000 for purchasing a two-wheeler as the government is raising road tax on vehicles.

According to automakers, this would increase the cost of ownership of their vehicles reasulting in an adverse impact on sales volume also after a notification is issued and marketers feel there could be a rush of consumers planning to buy a vehicle before the new rates come into force.

This increase in road tax is substantial and will particularly have an adverse impact on small-car buyersas this is the fourth increase in the cost of ownership for a car buyer in Delhi since January. Carmakers have increased prices of cars due to higher input costs and new emission norms besides change in excise duty.

The road tax has been raised to generate more revenues for the state government also, to induce consumers to switch to public transport and decongest roads. Now, cars that costs up to Rs 6 lakh will attract 4% road tax, twice that of the existing rate. So a small car priced around Rs 3.5 lakh will entail a road tax of Rs 14,000 after the new rates are notified.

Consumers buying cars with a price tag between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 10 lakh will need to pay 7% more road tax and cars costing above Rs 10 lakh will attract 10% more road tax as compared to 4% at present.

The biggest impact will be on price of luxury cars that would cost at least Rs 1 lakh more. There would be a rush of consumers buying and registering their cars before the new rates are applicable but there would be a sales lull thereafter for some time.

Two-wheelers costing between Rs 25,000 and Rs 40,000 will also attract 4% road tax as compared to 2% at present and vehicles with price tags of more than Rs 40,000 will attract 6% more tax. Most two-wheelers sold in Delhi costs upwards of Rs 40,000. So consumers will need to shell out as much as Rs 2,000 more to buy the vehicle. This will impact consumers but would not mean reduction in sales in the region.

"Bike to Work Week" targetting young bikers

http://www.suitcaseclinic.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/Bike.png

These days, in USA, Metro Vancouver’s Bike to Work Week is going to start its fourth annual event at the end of May. In Sapperton, Cap’s Cycles, in partnership with the New West chapter of the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition (VACC) and elementary schools around town have set up bike information classes aimed to educate kids on the advantages of cycling.

After that, it is planning to offer a bicycle riding skills seminar at Sir Richard McBride school, scheduled for June 7.

Earlier, it focused on promoting cycling as a way for adults to commute to work. Now, it also is setting up the Glenbrook bike club this year, an optional group for students to ride their bikes, build ramps and go on community rides with the school.

In addition to the work being done in Royal City schools, New Westminster has also put out a new bike map, outlining the various trails and paths around town. And for those adults looking to take their bike to the office during this year’s event, Feltham says the VACC plans to set up three commuter stations around town stocked with beverages for those who need some refreshments for their trip either to, or from, work.

Synopsis of Automobile Industry

http://www.monarchindia.net/Catalogue/images/Automobile%20Industry.jpg

It was way back in 1769 when a steam-powered automobile was created for transport purposes. The next important year was 1806, when cars were running on fuel gas and was powered by internal combustion engines. Later electric cars came into the industry during the 20th century; however it became popular only in 21st century when consumers and government were more concerned about low-emission vehicles.

Phases in automobile industry:

• Steam automobiles (Cugnot Steam Trolley)
• Electric automobiles (The Henney Kilowatt)
• Internal combustion engines (Benz Patent Motorwagen)
• Veteran era (Renault Voiturette)
• Brass/ Edwardian era (Ford Model T, Mercer Raceabout, Bugatti Type 13)
• Vintage era (Austin 7, Bugatti Type 35, Lancia Lambda, Cadillac V-16)
• Pre-World War era (Alvis Speed 20, Ford V-8, Bugatti Type 57, Volkswagen Beetle)
• Post-War era (Morris Minor, Jaguar E-type, Ford Mustang, Datsun 240Z)
• Modern era (Toyota Corolla, Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 3 Series, Ford Taurus)

The largest automakers in U.S are General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler. U.S ranks third after Japan and China under the list of world's top 20 motor vehicle producing countries.

The future of cars is overloaded with high end technologies which are eco-friendly and cost effective for customers. The auto manufacturers are spending a lot of money in R & D (Research and Development) to create a product that is safer, sustainable, energy efficient and less polluting. Alternatives to fuels like hydrogen cars, electric cars, compressed-air cars, etc are entering the market to give high mileage at low cost which is beneficial for owner of the car and environment too.

Latest technologies like BMW's Turbosteamer, Regenerative braking, Installation of Vortex is used which helps in saving energy and thereby cost. To improve the quality and strength of automobiles, the auto manufacturers are replacing steel with materials like fiber glass, carbon nanotubes, duralumin and carbon fiber. Few other technologies like platoons, automated highway systems and vehicle infrastructure integration enhances road safety and traffic flow.

Automobile industry was deeply affected by the recession which recently occurred. However, it is reviving and it will soon come back to normal in the near future.

Go Green With a Homemade Electric Car - Top 3 Reasons to Do it Now!

http://energy.cleartheair.org.hk/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/electric-car-station.jpg

With the slow economy most of us are looking for ways to save money. Building a homemade electric car is a great way to save on fuel prices. It's really a lot easier and cheaper than you probably think.

1) A homemade electric car will free you from The Big Oil Cartels stranglehold

While we struggle to scrimp and save the greedy big oil companies rake in billions in profits at our expense. We need to break their grip on us and become less dependent on them.

It's a safe bet that gas prices will rise again. How high will they go this time? Can you afford to pay more? Last time when prices topped $4 many families had to chose between food or gas It could go much higher this time.

Wouldn't it be nice to be free from them? Imagine never paying for gas again. What would you do with the extra money? Go on vacation? Eat better? Catch up on bills? Whatever your choice it's better in your pocket than theirs.

2) A homemade electric car is an affordable alternative to an expensive hybrid.

Many people think hybrid electric cars are the answer. But they are expensive. Many cant afford to be strapped with another payment. Availability right now is also an issue. It's questionable whether or not the savings in gas justify the increased cost of a hybrid. Plus your still buying gas!

You can build an electric vehicle conversion for a fraction of the price. There are countless examples of electric vehicle conversion for under $1000. Uncle Sam will even pay you to do it. You can get up to a $1000 alternative energy tax credit.

If you have a car that needs engine work it's probably cheaper just to do an electric vehicle conversion. I was quoted $700 for a complete tune up. Why bother? You can build a homemade electric car for that much money instead.

3) A homemade electric car is a green solution to global warming.

If we don't take care of our planet what will be left for our kids and grand kids? Hybrid cars still use gas and produce emissions. They may be a better alternative than a regular gas guzzler but they are still part of the problem.

It takes a lot less energy to recycle an existing car into a electric vehicle conversion than it does to create a new hybrid car from scratch. Why not take advantage of resources that are already here instead of using all the energy and materials needed for creating new ones?

Automobile Engine Overhauls

http://www.studydiscussions.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/automobile-engineer.jpg

You will need to find an appropriate place to work when performing any engine overhauling procedures. A level surface that has adequate space to move around in as well as storage for components and additional tools and parts is essential for smooth workings. An engine hoist is necessary to draw the engine out of your vehicle chassis and is typically on an A-frame that has portability for lifting and moving your engine in order to work on it.

Be sure to have all of the necessary tools required for any replacing or rebuilding of parts that you wish to do during your overhaul. Having separate drain pans and containers are essential for any fluids that you will need to drain and store during this process. Cleaning solvents, masking tape and even extra rags or paper towel should also be part of your tools and supplies list to help clean up any rebuilt engine parts or spills that may occur during your overhaul.

If you are new to engine overhauling, there are many places that provide complete engine overhaul kits pre-made and ready to use on your specific make and model of vehicle. Gasket kits, including valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets and even exhaust and intake manifold kits are just a few of the options available for pre-made automobile engine overhaul kits. Depending on your expertise, there are basic engine overhaul kits, Master and Deluxe kits available to cover any number of replacement parts or rebuilding for your engine.

Basic engine overhaul kits will typically include gaskets, piston rings and bearings sets, rod, cam and timing gear and chain sets, valve lifters, oil pump kits, and other oil and lube options. Master kits can add additional options to the Basic kit such as rocker arms, camshaft and oil pumps. If you are advanced, the Deluxe kit can expand your automobile engine overhauling capabilities to include piston pins, pushrods, intake and exhaust valves, as well as valve guides and springs. You may have the option to add additional components as needed, but you will have to check with your parts supplier for what is available.

Many common engine overhaul activities include replacing or grinding valves, inspecting or changing the camshaft or the crankshaft, inspecting the intake and exhaust manifolds as well as removing and replacing oil seals for smoother operation. You may be able to complete a number of engine overhaul procedures on your own, while others may require you to seek help with removal or replacement and rebuilding of parts for your automobile engine. If you are new to engine overhauling, it is always a good idea to have someone who has previous experience with replacement or rebuilding engine parts help you out when you are unsure of any necessary steps or actions.

Auto Sales - How To Score All The Early Morning Deals - Preparing The Mind

http://autosalenj.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/auto_sale_nj.jpg

Yeah, you guys heard me. As tough as it is to make the trip to the dealership early in the morning, it is a lot tougher to get the mindset in line to prepare for your big money making day. When I was first starting in the business, I'll admit, I missed a lot of the early morning deals. Maybe it was the lack of concentration, or maybe I still felt like I haven't woken up yet, or just maybe it's because I haven't talked to anybody. And I mean as in getting the right attitude in place when you finally walk up to that first buyer. Here's a couple of tips I implemented to help get my day started and take advantage of some of those nice early morning deals.

Practice some of your interpersonal people skills by making the rounds to your service, parts, and even your finance and accounting office. Make it a habit of greeting more than ten co-workers and while you are at it, talk to a couple of those service customers. This is a lesson in getting the tongue untied, and you never know, you might find that special someone that is looking for an auto sale for your automobile. And speaking of those loyal service customers, how about taking a pot of coffee and some cups, and just get to know some of them. On many different occasions, I actually found out that a close friend or relative is in the market. And I end up selling that person a car within a couple days, see how easy it is to do an auto sale?

As you can see, it's the little things like this that make a difference between selling only the average eight cars a month, to getting up to 15-16 cars. The last time I checked, that's several thousand dollars just by doing the simple chore in greeting your morning crew. Also try out some other clever morning traffic generation tips like taking some doughnuts and business cards to the local beauty salon. They're always talking there, a great source of gossip and word of mouth. Or maybe call up some of your previous customers and just thank them and ask for referrals. With these easy combinations, sales consultants can make better use of their time and start raking in more money. Show no mercy, make all the deals in the morning and make the other salesmen jealous! It's such a great feeling.

New Car For the Summer?

http://www.dieselstation.com/pics/Goodwood-Gathers-New-Cars-car-walls.jpg

With the winter season well and truly behind us people are looking forward to the summer and quite rightly so. Soon there will be long days of sunshine, socialising with friends and BBQs whenever we want, for us to enjoy.

There is also driving around with friends to look forward to, which really encapsulates everything that is great about summer. You will see loads of people are taking long rides with friends in their new cars, windows down, music ringing out whilst really making the most of the glorious weather.

So could a new car be on the cards this season then? Just imagine driving around in your new car - how about a convertible? Put the roof down and get your friends in the back listening to the radio while you cruise past people walking along the streets. You could head down to the local beach and do some sunbathing or just drive around doing some proper tourist sight seeing. You will be surprised at the activities and things to see that are right on your doorstep.

New cars are now pretty affordable. Many dealerships offer some form of payment plans that could suit your pocket or income. You will be able to get a 'buy now pay later' scheme that may not even ask for a deposit. There may also be a monthly payment plan which will enable you to stretch the cost of the car over 12, 24 or 36 months making the cost a new car much for affordable.

There are many affordable cars out there that offer £35 year car tax which is a pretty hefty saving on what you may already be paying out.

Newer cars can also be more fuel efficient than a lot of the older cars meaning that you will be able to go further to you money. This will prove invaluable in the summer as you will be able to drive for miles and in the winter you should still be seeing the saving if you are using that car for journeys to work.

It becomes easy to see why people are opting for a new car. Especially with the summer months fast approaching. You would be mad to be stuck in an old car that doesn't have air conditioning or even a sunroof.

New Motorbikes - An Economic & Valid Choice

http://www.adelaide-motorbikes.befoundonline.com.au/images/adelaide_motorbikes.jpg

Once a new bike enthusiast has made the decision to enjoy a ride on the open road, the wind in their faces, there is usually no turning back. A motorbike as a choice for transportation can raise eyebrows, but it is an economic and valid choice for some. What needs to be taken into consideration is the type of riding one will do before choosing from a bevy of new motorbikes. This should be reflected in the choice of motorbike and there are numerous selections. For those wanting to spend loads of time on highways, cruisers are a good choice.

There should be no worries, as cruisers are no longer relegated to the larger than life person. They come to fit all sizes. If the opportunity arises, get to a dealership and hop on one of the new motorbikes. Get a feel for how the body feels atop the bike. Look for any unusual feelings that may occur. Check to be sure that while the cruiser is still, a rider's feet are touching the ground comfortably. If the person choosing the bike is a smaller person, adjust accordingly. The same goes for someone larger. There should be nothing disproportionate about the bike and its rider. See how the handlebars feel. Sit on the seat, as there is nothing worse than finding out after purchasing a cruiser that the seat is intolerable for long-term riding. Even from the factory floor, the new bikes look cool, but accessories can make them look cooler and user-friendly. Riders are all about customising their bikes to fit individual style. Accessories such as passenger seats and saddlebags should not be overlooked.

Many motorbikes come with technology that makes the rides even more pleasurable. The exhaust system and fuel injection systems have improved tremendously over the last decade. The technology also makes the rides safer. Many new bikes are featuring items you might find on a car. The brake systems and transmissions should be taken into consideration, especially if the rider is new to motor biking.

When choosing from new motorbikes [http://www.nortonway.com/new-honda-bikes/], have an idea of what the monetary limits are. Many dealers offer financing, so set a budget and have an idea of what can be afforded monthly. Just as one would with a car, test-drive that cruiser. No need in putting money into an investment based on looks only and the ride is not what was expected. The sales staff should be armed with plenty of information to make an educated decision when choosing a cruiser motorcycle. With a little knowledge, there is no reason to not have a dream ride.

Electric Car Conversion Benefits

http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2008/12/07/286973.8-lg.jpg

Electric Cars and there hybrid cousins are the hot topics theses days with various automotive manufactures either developing or currently producing models in the $35,000 to $40,000 price range.

These cars can save you a bundle on gasoline cost and also contribute to the reduction in green house gases. One drawback is there range and price, which puts them out of reach for many people around the globe.

But did you know that with readily available parts you can build your own electric car for thousands less than you would purchasing one from a car dealer.

For some this may be a downside to an alternative means of getting an electric car, but this conversion does not have to be difficult. In fact non technical and non mechanical people are building electric vehicles all the time.

http://www.chinacartimes.com/wp-content/flybo1.jpg

When you consider that an electric car conversion takes some effort to get working and that it's benefits out weight many of the things that you have to contend with in a gas powered car you'll see that the time you spend on the conversion pays for itself long term.

For instance with a gas or diesel powered vehicle you need to maintain on a regular basis the breaks, oil, antifreeze, spark plugs, belts, alignment... and all sorts of other things to make sure the car or vehicle runs properly and passes road inspection or it won't be allowed on the road.

This maintenance gets more expensive the older your car gets and the more miles it is driven. Tied to this is that fact that many of the components in your car are made from oil so as the price of oil goes up so does the cost of maintenance; and of course gas or diesel is made from oil so the expense never stops.

With the global demand for oil on the increase as new customers enter the market and as the need for more energy from our technologically driven society increases; we need to better use our resource and not waste them on technologies that have essentially changed little in the past 100 years.

So what's the solution you ask, an electric car of course.

There are several reason why electric powered cars are a better choice!

These vehicles produce no combustible by products such as CO2, NO2, NO, SO2...

These electric vehicles get there energy from the power grid which is composed of a diverse power generating network which includes oil, coal, gas, hydroelectric, solar, wind and nuclear power.

This diversity means the cost per mile traveled is greatly reduced and the pollution as a result of power generation is less overall.

An electric vehicle also has far fewer parts, so maintenance is much easier and less costly.

Also these non gas powered cars are virtually silent.

If your concerned with the range and speed of your electric car, the best thing about the conversion process is that you can tailor the design to meet you requirements.

You can design you e-car to reach speeds in excess of 70 mph and with a range reaching 200 miles. But for the majority of people who don't drive more than 25 - 40 miles in a given day (since most of their driving is done in the city or local community) this would be over kill.

The performance you get from an electric car conversion is dependent on the electric motor chosen for the car, the battery power plant and the voltage output and the type of car you are retro-fitting.

Electric vehicles are the way of the future whether you by one from an automotive manufacturer or whether you do you own electric car conversion.

The revolution is on it's way and it can't be stopped.

A Career in Automotive Engineering

http://automobiles.honda.com/images/2008/civic-si-coupe/exterior-gallery/gal_lg8.jpg

Would you like to make "I'm a rambling wreck from my home and a heck of an engineer" a reality in your life? Have you always enjoyed tinkering around with cars and figuring out what made stuff work? Does being a team player developing products that are the cutting edge of technology appeal to you? Then automobile engineering might be the career for you.

Generally, an automotive engineer is one who works on the design or manufacture of automobiles. The word design is slightly misleading since an automotive designer is a stylist basically concerned with the appearance of the automobile while the engineer specializes in the performance of the automobile and its components.

The engineer works on developing new or improved structural parts, engines, transmissions and suspension systems. The engineer is involved in production cost estimation, reduction of production costs and implementing cost/quality control improvements. The engineer must be sure that the product meets all federal regulations. In the case of new designs, it is the engineer who determines driveability.

Actually, automotive engineering is a sub-specialty of mechanical engineering.

Even though the automotive manufacturing industry is in a slump at this time, there is still a demand for engineers due to the current focus on fuel economy and alternate fueled vehicles. The field is expected to grow as fast as average through 2014.

While there are global opportunities for automotive engineers in countries as far flung as Malaysia and the United Kingdom, most jobs within the US are centered in the Midwest since that is the major location of the auto industry. The big three employers in the United States are Ford, General Motors and Daimler-Chrysler.

The working environment is a combination of office and on site. The entry-level salary starts at around Rs. 5 Lakhs annually and a Bachelor of Science degree is required. In addition to the degree, the engineer should have excellent communication skills, strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

As with any engineering degree, the choice of a college is crucial. While all engineering colleges are selective, the better and the best are even more so.

One characteristic you need to look for in a college is the quality of instruction. Are all the classes taught by professional teachers and not graduate assistants? Do these teachers have industry connections? Is simulation and hands-on an integral part of the program?

Does the college offer internships or work study opportunities? Internships and work-study are very important as they offer a path to instant employment upon graduation. The same is true of having instructors with industry connections. It also doesn't hurt to consider a college that offers advanced degrees in the event you decide to go further than a bachelor's degree.

To ensure admission to the college of choice, a high school graduate should have a high GPA with a strong background in calculus, advanced math, statistics, physics, chemistry and geometry. Vocational classes in automotive mechanics are also helpful. It will also be necessary to score high on whatever college admissions test the school requires as the admissions committee will base their decision on both your high school record and admissions test scores.

Auto Sales 101 - Got Some Extra Downtime? Try This Traffic Generating Tip

http://img.alibaba.com/photo/104025007/New_or_used_Cars_Automobiles_from_German_Market.jpg

One thing is always constant in the car business, and that is change. One thing that hasn't changed is the amount of extra time we have doing nothing at the car dealership. Some of the most successful sales consultants do some pretty unordinary things to further enhance that paycheck. And getting started is never easy in the first place, but there is one important tool available. Internet sales is fast becoming the future of auto sales and will soon dominate the regular everyday methods we have been comfortable with. There is so much information on the web that we can take advantage of legally and help us obtain that extra 10-20 car deals every year. Try out this auto sales for size and notice the great increases in your bottom line.

First things first, develop some sort of flyer, postcard, or newsletter describing you and your dealership. Don't discuss any specials or financing options, the main goal for this exercise is to just let the public know you are "there" and buyers will automatically have a name with a face. This will build trust and comfort in an otherwise snaky business. Be sure you get the final approval from your general manager before you decide to start sending out these traffic finders. Step one is complete, usually all the materials are available by the dealers to get this started.

Are you new to the business or just getting started? Got to find those prospective buyers, so what's the easiest way to approach it? It is simple, just utilize your internet tools to find all of the local area businesses and residents, but how? Simply go onto the fabulous mapquest website to get a block of street names and just jot them down on a sheet of paper. Second, take those street names and go over to the ever useful yellowpages.com site, a huge lifesaver for me. Do a reverse lookup on all of those street names, and the new page will display all the street numbers, names of the residents, and even the home phone numbers. Print the copies, and there you go, lots potential clients available!

It's all very easy, and you would not have to make the dreaded cold calls that are normally in the daily tasks. Send any pertinent info to these addresses, it will be easier and less obtrusive for someone to read a newsletter than to receive a cold call in the late hours of the night. People just don't like that, you're main goal is to just get your name out there. If you can do this for a couple hours a day, that equates to roughly 500 or so potential hot leads. In a couple months, it will all pay off dividends. This are other methods of traffic generation, but this one is far more easier to do. Further build your empire and be sure to do the age old method of obtaining referrals from your buying customers. And best of all, it's free to use and takes up very little time, give it a try!
