Electric Cars and there hybrid cousins are the hot topics theses days with various automotive manufactures either developing or currently producing models in the $35,000 to $40,000 price range.
These cars can save you a bundle on gasoline cost and also contribute to the reduction in green house gases. One drawback is there range and price, which puts them out of reach for many people around the globe.
But did you know that with readily available parts you can build your own electric car for thousands less than you would purchasing one from a car dealer.
For some this may be a downside to an alternative means of getting an electric car, but this conversion does not have to be difficult. In fact non technical and non mechanical people are building electric vehicles all the time.
When you consider that an electric car conversion takes some effort to get working and that it's benefits out weight many of the things that you have to contend with in a gas powered car you'll see that the time you spend on the conversion pays for itself long term.
For instance with a gas or diesel powered vehicle you need to maintain on a regular basis the breaks, oil, antifreeze, spark plugs, belts, alignment... and all sorts of other things to make sure the car or vehicle runs properly and passes road inspection or it won't be allowed on the road.
This maintenance gets more expensive the older your car gets and the more miles it is driven. Tied to this is that fact that many of the components in your car are made from oil so as the price of oil goes up so does the cost of maintenance; and of course gas or diesel is made from oil so the expense never stops.
With the global demand for oil on the increase as new customers enter the market and as the need for more energy from our technologically driven society increases; we need to better use our resource and not waste them on technologies that have essentially changed little in the past 100 years.
So what's the solution you ask, an electric car of course.
There are several reason why electric powered cars are a better choice!
These vehicles produce no combustible by products such as CO2, NO2, NO, SO2...
These electric vehicles get there energy from the power grid which is composed of a diverse power generating network which includes oil, coal, gas, hydroelectric, solar, wind and nuclear power.
This diversity means the cost per mile traveled is greatly reduced and the pollution as a result of power generation is less overall.
An electric vehicle also has far fewer parts, so maintenance is much easier and less costly.
Also these non gas powered cars are virtually silent.
If your concerned with the range and speed of your electric car, the best thing about the conversion process is that you can tailor the design to meet you requirements.
You can design you e-car to reach speeds in excess of 70 mph and with a range reaching 200 miles. But for the majority of people who don't drive more than 25 - 40 miles in a given day (since most of their driving is done in the city or local community) this would be over kill.
The performance you get from an electric car conversion is dependent on the electric motor chosen for the car, the battery power plant and the voltage output and the type of car you are retro-fitting.
Electric vehicles are the way of the future whether you by one from an automotive manufacturer or whether you do you own electric car conversion.
The revolution is on it's way and it can't be stopped.
Welcome Aboard!
